Character Name: Diluc Ragnvindr
Canon: Genshin Impact
Canon History: Here!

Canon Personality: - Closed off. Diluc keeps his cards close to his chest and dislikes discussing his past or much beyond a surface level of himself. He’s the very definition of a closed book, and it’s one that has five types of locks on it just to open the cover.

- Jaded. This is a stark contrast from who he used to be when he was younger, a wide-eyed idealist who sought to be a knight of the highest caliber to make his father proud and protect his home. Diluc still loves his home, he would still do anything and everything to keep it safe and take out anyone who dared to threaten it before the very idea of danger sparked in their mind. But his world view being destroyed and the knights being revealed as corrupt has irreversibly changed his perception of them and thus of his world. He finds them to be unreliable and generally useless with a few exceptions.

- Serious. Diluc has no tolerance for fools and if he believes you to be intentionally wasting his time, he won’t hesitate to let you know it and when you're being annoying or prying too much into his business he also will be glad to inform you. He’s a prickly man with a bit of a temper, though rarely is he openly explosive. You don't want to see when it does become explosive.

- Massive trust issues. Between the Knights and Kaeya’s bad timing of revealing his past so soon after Crepus’ death, Diluc is slow to warm and even slower to trust. It’s climbing Dragonspine to earn this man’s trust but once you have you’ve earned it for life. That said he still does prefer to have control of his fate in his own two hands and dislikes relying on anyone else, but will if he must.

- He says he’s let go of the past. He has not. He 100% has not, and the proof is in said trust issues and even more his world view. Diluc faces the world clean with not a single smudge on his frame when his feelings on the past cling to the underside of his boot like stepping on gum in the parking lot. That was chewed on by a giant. Twice over.

- Validation from his father was infrequent and only seemed to happen, unbeknownst or unacknowledged by him, when Diluc fulfilled one of his older desires. Like receiving a vision. Deep in his heart it’s something he still wants.

- Kind. Diluc is a grump to be sure and has little patience for nonsense but at his core he’s still kind hearted. His anger stems from a deep devotion and love for his people and the few that he chooses to trust. His love for Mondstadt is endless and if you take the time to scratch beneath the annoyed surface Diluc is very much a perfect gentleman. Polite and cordial and he’s not above apologizing for when he makes mistakes or comes off as insulting where unwarranted. There is a reason he’s an eligible Mondstadt bachelor after all.

- Modest. Diluc isn’t exactly someone who relishes in the fame and wealth he’s acquired. He acknowledges it sure but he’s not immune to hard work (in a way prefers it even, paperwork aside) and he’s not a spoiled prince or entitled king.

- Extra. This is the kind of guy who says that criminals use the wind to hide their crimes and wonders if rain could cleanse the sins of evil and means it without a shred of irony. These are casual conversation quotes.

AU Birthday: April 30 (Canon)

AU History: Diluc’s backstory is, for the most part, the same as canon though with some key differences. He was still born into wealth through a multi-million dollar wine industry. Crepus Ragnvindr still raised him with high standards, somewhat pushing his desires and ideals onto the young, spry and idealistic Diluc who liked the idea of becoming a hero rather than the industry he was born into, but he didn't resent the industry either. It as his father's, and it was important. One of his few defiant acts was sneaking out with his closest friend to get some comic books and was a particular fan of Batman even though he didn’t fully understand him at the time. Just thought that Batman was cool! Deep down that love for comic books never really faded even in his adulthood.

He still sought approval from every angle from his father and idolized him greatly, but one day they were both mugged by an organized crime faction and left for dead, eventually succumbing to his wounds because even after calling 911 no one arrived in time. And when trying to report the case, the police seemed unsettlingly indifferent to the situation. Through some eavesdropping Diluc eventually learned the police were in the pocket of the ones who killed his father. As if his father being murdered didn’t destroy his world enough, even his perception of the justice system was shattered to pieces.

He grew, he inherited his father’s business as was Crepus’ desire, and he just became much more jaded. He didn’t have the means to disappear but he wanted to. This world didn’t give him the means to take justice into his own hands but if it did he would take that chance. But life doesn’t work that way, does it?

It didn’t stop him from running the business effectively, his approach was surprisingly proactive as a CEO, but eventually people within his extremely small close circle gave him the means to branch out on his own and conduct his business elsewhere. And so he found himself in Kaisou.

AU Personality Differences: - A bit more trusting of other people since he didn’t have Kaeya’s horrid timing to mess him up

- He’s a little more down to earth, but only a little. He’s cringe, but he is not yet free.

- Has actually had wine and tries it semi-regularly but still dislikes drinking heavily. He only does wine to taste and critique.
